Bipolar disorder

BPD (bipolar disorder), or BPAD (bipolar affective disorder), once called “manic-depressive illness” differs from pure depression in several ways, Patients suffer not from depression, but also from periods of the contrary- a “manic” mood feeling “up wired” “elated”  or “energized”,  usually beyond normally accepted behavior. Another, less severe form of bipolar disorder in which symptoms are not as extreme, is called cyclothymic disorder” or cyclothymia.”

Several forms of bipolar disorder range from people who swing between severe depression

and severe mania to those whose symptoms are mildly manic (“hypomania”).

Bipolar disorder also tends to exhibit more of a genetic component than pure depression,

and there is usually a strong family history.

BPD figures vary somewhat, but statistics show that 1 to 3 percent of North Americans

over 18 years of age are affected every year. Not surprisingly, the findings of free

radical damage, heightened oxidative stress, antioxidant abnormalities and decreased

glutathione levels in BPD are also found in major depressive disorder. Additionally

noted was a similar correlation between glutathione and the drugs used to treat the

specific disorder. In Canada, Cuo, Shao, Young and Wang demonstrated that the

pharmaceuticals Lithium and Valproate both increased glutathione activity in patients.

A group at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore correlated glutathione levels to

the severity of symptoms in both bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. The correlation was strong enough for them to suggest that glutathione levels could be a good indicator of patients’ progress. Following the lines of thought resulting from the MDD research, there was hope that improved antioxidant

defenses and raised glutathione might lead to more positive outcomes in bipolar patients.

Again Michael Berk and his team in Australia committed themselves to a randomized double-blind, placebo-controlled study using NAC (N-acetylcysteine) to treat BPD patients. They measured symptoms according to a number of different scales for bipolar disorder. His team, as well as several other research groups, continued this vein of research and showed improvements in severity of symptoms, daily functioning, and quality of life, cognition, and increased time between attacks. More recently, Berk’s team attempted to improve cognition in a group of severely bipolar patients with psychosis. A randomized placebo-controlled study on more than 50 patients led to significantly better performance in working memory tests after 6 months.

The immune system coordinates a variety of specialized cells to fight off infection and other threats. The healthy growth and activity of these cells depends upon the availability of glutathione. Glutathione is at the heart of most immune functions, explaining why low levels are seen in many diseases. This is best exemplified by AIDS, which is characterized by a severely compromised immune system.

Raising and maintaining glutathione levels can minimize the risk of these diseases. Although only very ill people are severely deficient in glutathione, those in good or fair health will benefit from glutathione supplementation, especially considering the environmental toxins and drug-resistant bacteria we’re exposed to these days.

The use of glutathione supplementation fights all kind of diseases from respiratory to auto immune to degenerative diseases.

Without question, the best type of preventive medicine is an optimized immune system, and a critical means to optimize it is by feeding it glutathione.

Glutathione as a dietary supplement.

We must first clarify an important, frequently misunderstood part of the glutathione story.

Upon learning about glutathione for the first time, many people go to their health store, buy it, and start dosing themselves. However, while glutathione is freely available in this form, this sort of oral, ingested glutathione will have negligible effects on your health. The product decomposes rapidly in the digestive system and is quickly removed from the gut. Apart from a few very specific instances, glutathione cannot be introduced into the body in this way. It must be made within your cells -which is where it’s naturally found. The effective way to stimulate the production of glutathione is to provide your body with the basic elements it needs to make glutathione by itself. Some pharmaceutical medications, such as N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC), have been developed to provide these precursors. There are also natural ways to increase glutathione levels, in particular the use of denatured (bioactive) whey proteins.

These are discussed throughout this website.

From the book “Glutathione Your Key to Health” Jimmy Gutman MD/Stephen Schettini

These numerous toxins enter your body through the food you eat, the water you drink, the air you breathe, and the products you use. Once they are in your bloodstream, your body works hard to get rid of them.

Your body responds to such foreign substances by initiating a defense mechanism known as inflammation. During this action, the white blood cells release some chemicals that head over to protect your body from invaders.

When the chemicals are released, the blood flow to the affected area increases, and as a result, you may experience some warmth and redness. You may also experience some pain if the chemicals leak into your tissues. The more foreign substances your body takes in, the more your body strives to fight them. This may lead to chronic inflammation, which causes more harm than good as the body turns to attack itself.

The best thing you can do to give your body relief is to flush out the toxins. This is done by the use of a detoxifying agent.

This is where glutathione comes in.

Glutathione is the utmost detoxifying agent. The first thing it does is get rid of the harmful toxins known as free radicals. As you’ve already seen, free radicals wreak havoc by stealing molecules from healthy cells, thus, damaging such cells. But there’s something you need to keep in mind. Free radicals are just some of the toxins in your body. There are other toxins such as metabolic waste, heavy metals and lipid peroxides that your body still needs to eliminate.

Glutathione eliminates such toxins via a mechanism known as conjugation. This is where glutathione binds itself to the toxin at a specific site and makes it water-soluble. This neutralizes the toxin and enables it to be easily secreted from your body.

Drugs NAC and OTC can raise glutathione levels, but their effects are short-lived. These pharmaceutical drugs also have little nutritional value. Whey proteins have excellent nutritional value but usually lack glutathione precursors. The ideal source of dietary cysteine should be natural, nutritional, bioactive, and undenatured and As many of you are aware, whey protein, especially whey protein isolates (over 90% protein), are sometimes referred to as the “perfect” proteins because they contain all the essential amino acids required for your body’s protein synthesis. With a biological value (BV) of over 110, it would be challenging to find a protein utilized more efficiently than this product.

The use of glutathione supplementation fights all kind of diseases from respiratory to auto immune to degenerative diseases.

Without question, the best type of preventive medicine is an optimized immune system, and a critical means to optimize it is by feeding it glutathione.

This is not the same glutathione that you see at the health food store. This is glutathione precursor. It’s very different because glutathione must be made inside your cells and the precursor is the food your cells   require to make its own glutathione as nature intended. That is the most natural and effective approach to boost your immune system.

It’s all natural with NO side effect.
