The Role of Glutathione in Detoxification

The immune system coordinates a variety of specialized cells to fight off infection and other threats. The healthy growth and activity of these cells depends upon the availability of glutathione. Glutathione is at the heart of most immune functions, explaining why low levels are seen in many diseases. This is best exemplified by AIDS, which is characterized by a severely compromised immune system.

Raising and maintaining glutathione levels can minimize the risk of these diseases. Although only very ill people are severely deficient in glutathione, those in good or fair health will benefit from glutathione supplementation, especially considering the environmental toxins and

drug-resistant bacteria we’re exposed to these days.

The use of glutathione supplementation fights all kind of diseases from respiratory to auto immune to degenerative diseases.

Without question, the best type of preventive medicine is an optimized immune system, and a critical means to optimize it is by feeding it glutathione.

Glutathione as a dietary supplement.

We must first clarify an important, frequently misunderstood part of the glutathione story.

Upon learning about glutathione for the first time, many people go to their health store, buy it, and start dosing themselves. However, while glutathione is freely available in this form, this sort of oral, ingested glutathione will have negligible effects on your health. The product decomposes rapidly in the digestive system and is quickly removed from the gut. Apart from a few very specific instances, glutathione cannot be introduced into the body in this way. It must be made within your cells -which is where it’s naturally found. The effective way to stimulate the production of glutathione is to provide your body with the basic elements it needs to make glutathione by itself. Some pharmaceutical medications, such as N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC), have been developed to provide these precursors. There are also natural ways to increase glutathione levels, in particular the use of denatured (bioactive) whey proteins.

These are discussed throughout this website.

Every day, you encounter harmful substances known as toxins. These toxins come from various sources in your environment, and as such, it is difficult to avoid them. Some sources of toxins include:

Auto exhaust – This includes things such as carbon monoxide, benzene, and formaldehyde.

Benzopyrenes – Arises when you barbecue food or in fuel exhaust.

Cigarette smoke

Cadmium – This includes things such as plastics, batteries, and insecticides.

Carcinogens – This includes asbestos, radiation, vinyl chloride, and dioxin.

Household cleaners – This includes benzenes and acetone.

Mercury

Lead – Found in things such as soil, water, old pipes, and paint.

Aluminum – Found in cookware, skin creams, shampoo, and antiperspirants.

Volatile organic compounds such as adhesives, paints, and cleaning products.

Radiation – Found in X-rays. Microwave and the ultraviolet radiation that comes from sunlight.

Exci-toxins – These are food additives that tend to over-stimulate your brain. They include things such as hydrolyzed vegetable protein, saccharin, and aspartame.

Acetaminophen – This is a non-aspirin pain reliever. It works to reduce the levels of glutathione.

EMF’s – These electromagnetic fields found in things such as computers, TV, phones, and electric blankets tend to damage your nerve cells.

Nitrosamines – Found in cured and smoked foods

PFC’s – These are perfluorinated chemicals found in products such as carpets and nonstick cookware.

These numerous toxins enter your body through the food you eat, the water you drink, the air you breathe, and the products you use. Once they are in your bloodstream, your body works hard to get rid of them.

Your body responds to such foreign substances by initiating a defense mechanism known as inflammation. During this action, the white blood cells release some chemicals that head over to protect your body from invaders.

When the chemicals are released, the blood flow to the affected area increases, and as a result, you may experience some warmth and redness. You may also experience some pain if the chemicals leak into your tissues. The more foreign substances your body takes in, the more your body strives to fight them. This may lead to chronic inflammation, which causes more harm than good as the body turns to attack itself.

The best thing you can do to give your body relief is to flush out the toxins. This is done by the use of a detoxifying agent.

This is where glutathione comes in.

Glutathione is the utmost detoxifying agent. The first thing it does is get rid of the harmful toxins known as free radicals. As you’ve already seen, free radicals wreak havoc by stealing molecules from healthy cells, thus, damaging such cells. But there’s something you need to keep in mind. Free radicals are just some of the toxins in your body. There are other toxins such as metabolic waste, heavy metals and lipid peroxides that your body still needs to eliminate.

Glutathione eliminates such toxins via a mechanism known as conjugation. This is where glutathione binds itself to the toxin at a specific site and makes it water-soluble. This neutralizes the toxin and enables it to be easily secreted from your body.

If you look at glutathione closely, you’ll notice that it does 3 important things as far as the detoxification process is concerned. First, it neutralizes free radicals. Second, it helps other cells neutralize free radicals by recycling them and third, it neutralizes other toxins in your body. All these roles make it possible for your body to function properly.

The liver, which is the largest organ in your body and the main detoxification organ, contains the highest concentration of glutathione. When glutathione levels are low, liver function is also affected. This results in large quantities of toxins in your body since such toxins cannot be eliminated successfully if your liver function is impaired. Thus, for your own good, it is vital that you have enough glutathione in your body so that your liver can carry out its detoxification function properly.

But here’s the thing.

Glutathione is produced by your body. It is something that comes from within and unfortunately, many people lack the enzyme that leads to the production of glutathione. Also, when it comes to detoxification, glutathione is quickly depleted especially during the first phase of detoxification. Thus, if you have it but it is not enough, your body will not be able to detoxify as it should.

Thus, in order to successfully detoxify your body and get rid of harmful toxins that cause disease, it is imperative that you raise your levels of glutathione. So what can you do to increase your glutathione levels? Are there specific things you can do?

Drugs NAC and OTC can raise glutathione levels, but their effects are short-lived. These pharmaceutical drugs also have little nutritional value. Whey proteins have excellent nutritional value but usually lack glutathione precursors. The ideal source of dietary cysteine should be natural, nutritional, bioactive, and undenatured and As many of you are aware, whey protein, especially whey protein isolates (over 90% protein), are sometimes referred to as the “perfect” proteins because they contain all the essential amino acids required for your body’s protein synthesis. With a biological value (BV) of over 110, it would be challenging to find a protein utilized more efficiently than Immunocal

The use of glutathione supplementation fights all kind of diseases from respiratory to auto immune to degenerative diseases.

Without question, the best type of preventive medicine is an optimized immune system, and a critical means to optimize it is by feeding it glutathione.

This is not the same glutathione that you see at the health food store. This is glutathione precursor. It’s very different because glutathione must be made inside your cells and the precursor is the food your cells   require to make its own glutathione as nature intended. That is the most natural and effective approach to boost your immune system.

It’s all natural with NO side effect.
